Official: EU ministers to consider new energy measures on Nov 24

BRUSSELS/CAIRO, Oct 25 (PRIME) -- The E.U. energy ministers will hold an extraordinary meeting on November 24 in order to vote on the idea of smoothing gas price fluctuations in case of market panic that was widely supported by the ministers, Czech Republic's Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Sikela said on Tuesday.

European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said that the energy ministers had also strongly supported the idea of joint gas purchases in order to fill the European storages by next winter.

The ministers-participants of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum issued a statement expressing deep concern over the mechanisms of setting gas price limits due to political reasons. The step can exacerbate market deficit, investment outflow and harm both producers and consumers, it said.
